چرا ابراهیم از حضور میهمانان اظهار ترس کرد؟

این سخن ابراهیم(ع) پس از آن بود که میهمانان او (فرشتگان) نشستند و ابراهیم برای آنان گوساله‌ای بریان حاضر کرد؛ ولی آنها از خوردن آن خودداری کردند (أیةُ ۷۰ سورة هود نیز به این موضوع اشاره دارد). بعد از این برخورد عجیب ابراهیم احساس ترس کرد و به آنها فرمود که از ایشان بیمناک است. برخی از مفسران بر آن‌اند که این ترس بدین خاطر بود که در آن زمان و زمان‌های بعد و حتی در عصر ما در بین بعضی از اقوام معمول است که هر گاه کسی نان و نمک کسی را بخورد.ه به او گزندی نخواهد رساند و خود را مدیون او می‌داند و به همین دلیلء دست نبردن به سوی غذاء دلیل بر قصد سوء و کینه و عداوت است.

    And he felt from them apprehension. They said, "Fear not," and gave him good tidings of a learned boy.

  • وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِىٓ ءَامَنَ يَٰقَوْمِ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُم مِّثْلَ يَوْمِ ٱلْأَحْزَابِ

    And he who believed said, "O my people, indeed I fear for you [a fate] like the day of the companies -

  • قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا كُنَّا قَبْلُ فِىٓ أَهْلِنَا مُشْفِقِينَ

    They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah].

  • قَالَا رَبَّنَآ إِنَّنَا نَخَافُ أَن يَفْرُطَ عَلَيْنَآ أَوْ أَن يَطْغَىٰ

    They said, "Our Lord, indeed we are afraid that he will hasten [punishment] against us or that he will transgress."
