18

مَا لَنَآ أَن مِن مِنْ وَلَٰكِن حَتَّىٰ ﴿١٨﴾

Translation

Saheeh International

They will say, "Exalted are You! It was not for us to take besides You any allies. But You provided comforts for them and their fathers until they forgot the message and became a people ruined."

منظور از معبودها در اینجا کیانند؟

در پاسخ این سوّال, دو تفسیر در میان مفسران معروف وجود دارد: نخست این‌که منظورء معبودهای انسانی (همچون مسیح) یا شیطانی (همچون جن) یا فرشتگان هستند که هر کدام را گروهی از مشرکان برای پرستش انتخاب کرده بودند و چون این معبودها دارای عقل و شعور و ادراک هستندء مورد بازپرسی قرار گرفته و برای اتمام حجت و اثبات دروغ مشرکان که می‌گویند اینها ما را به عبادت خود دعوت کردندء از آنها سوّال می‌شود که آیا چنین سخنی صحیح است و آنها به صراحت گفتار مشرکان را تکذیب می‌کنند. تفسیر دوم این است که خداوند در آن روزء نوعی از حیات و شعور به بت‌ها می‌بخشد که می‌توانند مورد بازپرسی قرار گیرند و پاسخ لازم را بدهند و بگویند که خدایاء ما اینها را گمراه نکردیم؛ بلکه آنها خود بر اثر غرق شدن در شهوات و غرور گمراه شدند. قراین موجود در آیه با تفسیر یکم هماهنگ‌تر است؛ چرا که فعل‌ها و ضمیرها همه نشان می‌دهند که طرف صحبتء صاحبان عقل و شعورند» و این متناسب با معبودهایی همچون مسیح و فرشتگان و مانند آتهاست.

  • قَالُوا۟ بَشَّرْنَٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلْقَٰنِطِينَ

    They said, "We have given you good tidings in truth, so do not be of the despairing."

  • وَلَمَّآ أَن جَآءَتْ رُسُلُنَا لُوطًا سِىٓءَ بِهِمْ وَضَاقَ بِهِمْ ذَرْعًا وَقَالُوا۟ لَا تَخَفْ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ إِنَّا مُنَجُّوكَ وَأَهْلَكَ إِلَّا ٱمْرَأَتَكَ كَانَتْ مِنَ ٱلْغَٰبِرِينَ

    And when Our messengers came to Lot, he was distressed for them and felt for them great discomfort. They said, "Fear not, nor grieve. Indeed, we will save you and your family…

  • قَالُوا۟ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْعَزِيزُ إِنَّ لَهُۥٓ أَبًا شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا فَخُذْ أَحَدَنَا مَكَانَهُۥٓ إِنَّا نَرَىٰكَ مِنَ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

    They said, "O 'Azeez, indeed he has a father [who is] an old man, so take one of us in place of him. Indeed, we see you as a doer of good."

  • قَالُوا۟ سُبْحَٰنَكَ أَنتَ وَلِيُّنَا مِن دُونِهِم بَلْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْبُدُونَ ٱلْجِنَّ أَكْثَرُهُم بِهِم مُّؤْمِنُونَ

    They will say, "Exalted are You! You, [O Allah], are our benefactor not them. Rather, they used to worship the jinn; most of them were believers in them."
