O People of the Scripture, why do you confuse the truth with falsehood and conceal the truth while you know [it]?

قرآن حکیم (شرح آیات منتخب)

حق‌پوشانی اهل کتاب

مضمون این آیه در ید ۴۲ سورة بقره نیز آمده است که می‌فرماید: «و حق را با باطل نیامیزید و حقیقت را با این‌که می‌دانید. کتمان نکنید.» هر دوی این آیات» حاوی سرزنش اهل کتاب است که حق را با باطل می‌آمیختند و واقعیت را در این میان پنهان می کردند تا مردم گمراه شوند. آنها صفات پیامبر اسلام(ص) را که در تورات و انجیل آمده بود پنهان یا تحریف می‌کردند و راست و دروغ را مخلوط کرده, مردم را به اشتباه می‌انداختند. امیرالموّمنین علی(ع) در بارهٌ مخلوط شدن حق و باطل با یکدیگر می‌فرماید: «اگر حق به باطل پوشیده نمی‌گشت. زبان دشمنان یاوه‌گو از آن بریده می‌شد؛ اما قسمتی از حق و قسمتی از باطل را می‌گیرند و با هم در می‌آمیزند. [در این شرایط] تنها کسانی نجات خواهند یافت که وعد نیک از سوی خدا به آنها داده شده است.»
