The People of the Scripture ask you to bring down to them a book from the heaven. But they had asked of Moses [even] greater than that and said, "Show us Allah outright," so the thunderbolt struck them for their wrongdoing. Then they took the calf [for worship] after clear evidences had come to them, and We pardoned that. And We gave Moses a clear authority.

The People of the Book ask you to bring down for them a Book from the sky. Certainly they asked Moses for [something] greater than that, for they said, ‘Show us Allah visibly,’ whereat a thunderbolt seized them for their wrongdoing. Then they took up the Calf [for worship], after all the manifest proofs that had come to them. Yet We excused that, and We gave Moses a manifest authority.

The people of the Scripture ask of thee that thou shouldst cause an (actual) Book to descend upon them from heaven. They asked a greater thing of Moses aforetime, for they said: Show us Allah plainly. The storm of lightning seized them for their wickedness. Then (even) after that) they chose the calf (for worship) after clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty) had come unto them. And We forgave them that! And We bestowed on Moses evident authority.

The people of the Book ask thee to cause a book to descend to them from heaven: Indeed they asked Moses for an even greater (miracle), for they said: "Show us Allah in public," but they were dazed for their presumption, with thunder and lightning. Yet they worshipped the calf even after clear signs had come to them; even so we forgave them; and gave Moses manifest proofs of authority.

The People of the Book will ask thee to bring down upon them a Book from heaven; and they asked Moses for greater than that, for they said, 'Show us God openly.' And the thunderbolt took them for their evildoing. Then they took to themselves the Calf, after the clear signs had come to them; yet We pardoned them that, and We bestowed upon Moses a clear authority.

اهل کتاب [بنا به خواستِ نامعقولشان] از تو می خواهند که از آسمان، کتابی برای آنان نازل کنی، البته [این بازیگران زشت باطن] از موسی بزرگ تر از آن را خواستند، و گفتند: خدا را آشکارا به ما نشان ده. پس آنان را به کیفر ستمشان صاعقه فرو گرفت. باز پس از آنکه [بر وحدانیّت حق و ضرورت خداپرستی] دلایل روشن برای آنان آمد، گوساله را به عنوان معبود گرفتند، و ما از این [گناه بزرگ و زشت هم] گذشتیم و به موسی برهانی روشن و قدرتی آشکار دادیم.

اهل کتاب از تو می‌خواهند که کتابی از آسمان [یکباره‌] بر آنان فرود آوری. البتّه از موسی بزرگتر از این را خواستند و گفتند: «خدا را آشکارا به ما بنمای.» پس به سزای ظلمشان صاعقه آنان را فرو گرفت. سپس، بعد از آنکه دلایل آشکار برایشان آمد، گوساله را [به پرستش‌] گرفتند، و ما از آن هم درگذشتیم و به موسی برهانی روشن عطا کردیم.

Kitap ehli, senin kendilerine gökten bir kitap indirmeni isterler. Musa'dan bundan daha büyüğünü istemişlerdi ve "Bize Allah'ı apaçık göster" demişlerdi. Zulümlerinden ötürü onları yıldırım çarpmıştı. Belgeler kendilerine geldikten sonra da, buzağıyı tanrı olarak benimsediler, fakat bunları affettik ve Musa'ya apaçık bir hüccet verdik, söz vermelerine karşılık Tur dağını üzerlerine kaldırdık ve onlara: "Kapıdan secde ederek girin" dedik, "Cumartesileri aşırı gitmeyin" dedik, onlardan sağlam bir söz aldık.

Ahli Kitab meminta kepadamu agar kamu menurunkan kepada mereka sebuah Kitab dari langit. Maka sesungguhnya mereka telah meminta kepada Musa yang lebih besar dari itu. Mereka berkata: "Perlihatkanlah Allah kepada kami dengan nyata". Maka mereka disambar petir karena kezalimannya, dan mereka menyembah anak sapi, sesudah datang kepada mereka bukti-bukti yang nyata, lalu Kami maafkan (mereka) dari yang demikian. Dan telah Kami berikan kepada Musa keterangan yang nyata.

پیغمبر یہ اہل هکتاب آپ سے مطالبہ کرتے ہیں کہ ان پر آسمان سے کوئی کتاب نازل کردیجئے تو انہوں نے موسٰی سے اس سے زیادہ سنگین سوال کیا تھا جب ان سے یہ کہا کہ ہمیں اللہ کو علی الاعلان دکھلا دیجئے تو ان کے ظلم کی بنا پر انہیں ایک بجلی نے اپنی گرفت میں لے لیا پھر انہوں نے ہماری نشانیوں کے آجانے کے باوجود گوسالہ بنالیا تو ہم نے اس سے بھی درگزر کیا اور موسٰی علیھ السّلام کو کھلی ہوئی دلیل عطا کردی

আপনার নিকট আহলে-কিতাবরা আবেদন জানায় যে, আপনি তাদের উপর আসমান থেকে লিখিত কিতাব অবতীর্ণ করিয়ে নিয়ে আসুন। বস্তুতঃ এরা মূসার কাছে এর চেয়েও বড় জিনিস চেয়েছে। বলেছে, একেবারে সামনাসামনিভাবে আমাদের আল্লাহকে দেখিয়ে দাও। অতএব, তাদের উপর বজ্রপাত হয়েছে তাদের পাপের দরুন; অতঃপর তাদের নিকট সুস্পষ্ট প্রমাণ-নিদর্শন প্রকাশিত হবার পরেও তারা গো-বৎসকে উপাস্যরূপে গ্রহণ করেছিল; তাও আমি ক্ষমা করে দিয়েছিলাম এবং আমি মূসাকে প্রকৃষ্ট প্রভাব দান করেছিলাম।
