وَإِنْ فَلَا مِنْهُ ﴿٢٠﴾

Translation

Saheeh International

But if you want to replace one wife with another and you have given one of them a great amount [in gifts], do not take [back] from it anything. Would you take it in injustice and manifest sin?

مهر را با تهمت زدن به زن پس نگیرید

در شأن نزول این آیه آمده است که پیش از اسلام» رسم بر این بود که اگر می‌خواستند همسر سابق را طلاق بدهند و ازدواج جدیدی کنند.ء برای فرار از پرداخت مهرء همسر خود را به اعمال منافی عفت متهم می‌کردند و بر او سخت می گرفتند تا حاضر شود مهر خویش را که معمولاً پیشتر دریافت می‌شدء پس بدهد و طلاق بگیرد و همان مهر را برای همسر دوم قرار می‌دادند. این آیه نازل شد و به شدت از این کار زشت جلوگیری و آن را نکوهش کرد.
