Those before them had already said it, but they were not availed by what they used to earn.

Those who were before them [also] said that, but what they used to earn did not avail them.

Those before them said it, yet (all) that they had earned availed them not;

Thus did the (generations) before them say! But all that they did was of no profit to them.

So said those that were before them; but that they earned did not avail them,

همین [سخن بیهوده و باطل] را کسانی که پیش از آنان بودند، گفتند، ولی آنچه را [از مقام و ثروت همواره] به دست می آوردند، عذاب و هلاکت را از آنان برطرف نکرد.

قطعاً کسانی که پیش از آنان بودند [نیز] این [سخن‌] را گفتند و آنچه به دست آورده بودند، کاری برایشان نکرد.

Bunu onlardan öncekiler de söylemişti, ama kazandıkları şeyler onlara fayda vermedi.

Sungguh orang-orang yang sebelum mereka (juga) telah mengatakan itu pula, maka tiadalah berguna bagi mereka apa yang dahulu mereka usahakan.

ان سے پہلے والوں نے بھی یہی کہا تھا تو وہ کچھ ان کے کام نہیں آیا جسے وہ حاصل کررہے تھے

তাদের পূর্ববর্তীরাও তাই বলত, অতঃপর তাদের কৃতকর্ম তাদের কোন উপকারে আসেনি।
