They said, "O Salih, you were among us a man of promise before this. Do you forbid us to worship what our fathers worshipped? And indeed we are, about that to which you invite us, in disquieting doubt."

They said, ‘O Salih! You were a source of hope to us before this. Do you forbid us to worship what our fathers have been worshiping? Indeed we have grave doubts concerning that to which you invite us.’

They said: O Salih! Thou hast been among us hitherto as that wherein our hope was placed. Dost thou ask us not to worship what our fathers worshipped? Lo! we verily are in grave doubt concerning that to which thou callest us.

They said: "O Salih! thou hast been of us! a centre of our hopes hitherto! dost thou (now) forbid us the worship of what our fathers worshipped? But we are really in suspicious (disquieting) doubt as to that to which thou invitest us."

They said, 'Salih, thou hast hitherto been a source of hope among us. What, dost thou forbid us to serve that our fathers served? Truly we are in doubt, concerning what thou callest us to, disquieting.'

گفتند: ای صالح! پیش از این در میان ما [به عنوان انسانی عاقل و خردمند] مورد امید بودی، آیا ما را از پرستیدن آنچه پدرانمان می پرستیدند، باز می داری؟ و ما بی تردید در [درستی و صحّت] تعالیمی که به آن دعوتمان می کنی در شکی شدید و سخت هستیم [چنان شکی که در خردمندی تو نیز دچار تردیدیم.]

گفتند: «ای صالح، به راستی تو پیش از این، میان ما مایه امید بودی. آیا ما را از پرستش آنچه پدرانمان می‌پرستیدند باز می‌داری؟ و بی‌گمان، ما از آنچه تو ما را بدان می‌خوانی سخت دچار شکّیم.»

"Ey Salih! Sen bundan önce, aramızda kendisinden iyilik beklenir bir kimseydin; şimdi babalarımızın taptıklarına bizi tapmaktan men mi ediyorsun? Doğrusu bizi çağırdığın şeyden şüphe ve endişedeyiz" dediler.

Kaum Tsamud berkata: "Hai Shaleh, sesungguhnya kamu sebelum ini adalah seorang di antara kami yang kami harapkan, apakah kamu melarang kami untuk menyembah apa yang disembah oleh bapak-bapak kami? dan sesungguhnya kami betul-betul dalam keraguan yang menggelisahkan terhadap agama yang kamu serukan kepada kami".

ان لوگوں نے کہا کہ اے صالح اس سے پہلے تم سے بڑی امیدیں وابستہ تھیں کیا تم اس بات سے روکتے ہو کہ ہم اپنے بزرگوں کے معبودوں کی پرستش کریں -ہم یقینا تمہاری دعوت کی طرف سے شک اور شبہ میں ہیں

তারা বলল-হে সালেহ, ইতিপূর্বে তোমার কাছে আমাদের বড় আশা ছিল। আমাদের বাপ-দাদা যা পূজা করত তুমি কি আমাদেরকে তার পূজা করতে নিষেধ কর? কিন্তু যার প্রতি তুমি আমাদের আহবান জানাচ্ছ আমাদের তাতে এমন সন্দেহ রয়েছে যে, মন মোটেই সায় দিচ্ছে না।
