When you [first] heard about it, why did not the faithful, men and women, think well of their folks, and say, ‘This is an obvious calumny’?

Why did not the believers, men and women, when ye heard it, think good of their own own folk, and say: It is a manifest untruth?

Why did not the believers - men and women - when ye heard of the affair,- put the best construction on it in their own minds and say, "This (charge) is an obvious lie"?

Why, when you heard it, did the believing men and women not of their own account think good thoughts, and say, 'This is a manifest calumny'?

چرا هنگامی که آن [تهمت بزرگ] را شنیدید، مردان و زنان مؤمن به خودشان گمان نیک نبردند [که این تهمت کار اهل ایمان نیست] و نگفتند: این تهمتی آشکار [از سوی منافقان] است؟! [که می خواهند در میان اهل ایمان فتنه و آشوب و بدبینی ایجاد کنند]

چرا هنگامی که آن [بهتان‌] را شنیدید، مردان و زنان مؤمن گمان نیک به خود نبردند و نگفتند: «این بهتانی آشکار است»؟

Onu işittiğiniz zaman, erkek kadın müminlerin, kendiliklerinden hüsnü zanda bulunup da: "Bu apaçık bir iftiradır" demeleri gerekmez miydi?

তোমরা যখন একথা শুনলে, তখন ঈমানদার পুরুষ ও নারীগণ কেন নিজেদের লোক সম্পর্কে উত্তম ধারণা করনি এবং বলনি যে, এটা তো নির্জলা অপবাদ?
