کفران نعمت؛ نابودگر آن

در روایتی آمده است که هنگامی که امیر مژْمنان علی(ع) از کنار مدائن می‌گذشت و آثار کسری (انوشیروان و دیگر شاهان ساسانی) را مشاهده می‌کرد که نزدیک به فرو ریختن بوه یکی از کسانی که در خدمتش بودء شعری را برای عبرت قرائت کرد که ترجمةٌ آن چنین است:«بادها بر آثار باقیماندةٌ سرزمینشان وزیدن گرفت. گویی آنها همگی وعده‌گاهی داشتند و به سوی وعده‌گاهشان شتافتند.» امام فرمود: «چرا این آیات را نخواندی؟» آنگاه این آیات را تلاوت کرد»ء سپس فرمود: «اینهاء وارشان (اموال و حکومت دیگران) بودند؛ ولی (آن نعمات را برای دیگران) به ارث گذاشتند. شکر نعمت را به‌جا نیاوردند؛ پس دنیایشان به خاطر نافرمانی گرفته شد. بپرهیزید از کفران نعمت؛ مبادا که خشم الهی دامنگیرتان شود.»

    But, [on the contrary], We have provided good things for these [disbelievers] and their fathers until life was prolonged for them. Then do they not see that We set upon the land…

  • وَنُرِيدُ أَن نَّمُنَّ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتُضْعِفُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَنَجْعَلَهُمْ أَئِمَّةً وَنَجْعَلَهُمُ ٱلْوَٰرِثِينَ

    And We wanted to confer favor upon those who were oppressed in the land and make them leaders and make them inheritors

  • فَـَٔامَنُوا۟ فَمَتَّعْنَٰهُمْ إِلَىٰ حِينٍ

    And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time.

  • فَجَعَلْنَٰهُمْ سَلَفًا وَمَثَلًا لِّلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

    And We made them a precedent and an example for the later peoples.

  • وَإِذًا لَّـَٔاتَيْنَٰهُم مِّن لَّدُنَّآ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا

    And then We would have given them from Us a great reward.
