Al-Qiyaama·The Resurrection

✦ memorize this sūrah

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

  1. لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ﴿١﴾

    Nay, I swear by the Day of Resurrection;

  2. وَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلنَّفْسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ﴿٢﴾

    Nay, I swear by the accusing soul (that this Scripture is true).

  3. أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ﴿٣﴾

    Thinketh man that We shall not assemble his bones?

  4. بَلَىٰ قَٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّىَ بَنَانَهُۥ﴿٤﴾

    Yea, verily. We are Able to restore his very fingers!

  5. بَلْ يُرِيدُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ﴿٥﴾

    But man would fain deny what is before him.

  6. يَسْـَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ﴿٦﴾

    He asketh: When will be this Day of Resurrection?

  7. فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلْبَصَرُ﴿٧﴾

    But when sight is confounded

  8. وَخَسَفَ ٱلْقَمَرُ﴿٨﴾

    And the moon is eclipsed

  9. وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ﴿٩﴾

    And sun and moon are united,

  10. يَقُولُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ ٱلْمَفَرُّ﴿١٠﴾

    On that day man will cry: Whither to flee!

  11. كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ﴿١١﴾

    Alas! No refuge!

  12. إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمُسْتَقَرُّ﴿١٢﴾

    Unto thy Lord is the recourse that day.

  13. يُنَبَّؤُا۟ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ﴿١٣﴾

    On that day man is told the tale of that which he hath sent before and left behind.

  14. بَلِ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِۦ بَصِيرَةٌ﴿١٤﴾

    Oh, but man is a telling witness against himself,

  15. وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ﴿١٥﴾

    Although he tender his excuses.

  16. لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِۦٓ﴿١٦﴾

    Stir not thy tongue herewith to hasten it.

  17. إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُۥ وَقُرْءَانَهُۥ﴿١٧﴾

    Lo! upon Us (resteth) the putting together thereof and the reading thereof.

  18. فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَٰهُ فَٱتَّبِعْ قُرْءَانَهُۥ﴿١٨﴾

    And when We read it, follow thou the reading;

  19. ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُۥ﴿١٩﴾

    Then lo! upon Us (resteth) the explanation thereof.

  21. كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ﴿٢٠﴾

    Nay, but ye do love the fleeting Now

  22. وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ﴿٢١﴾

    And neglect the Hereafter.

  23. وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاضِرَةٌ﴿٢٢﴾

    That day will faces be resplendent,

  24. إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ﴿٢٣﴾

    Looking toward their Lord;

  25. وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بَاسِرَةٌ﴿٢٤﴾

    And that day will other faces be despondent,

  26. تَظُنُّ أَن يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌ﴿٢٥﴾

    Thou wilt know that some great disaster is about to fall on them.

  27. كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِىَ﴿٢٦﴾

    Nay, but when the life cometh up to the throat

  28. وَقِيلَ مَنْ رَاقٍ﴿٢٧﴾

    And men say: Where is the wizard (who can save him now)?

  29. وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلْفِرَاقُ﴿٢٨﴾

    And he knoweth that it is the parting;

  30. وَٱلْتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ﴿٢٩﴾

    And agony is heaped on agony;

  31. إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمَسَاقُ﴿٣٠﴾

    Unto thy Lord that day will be the driving.

  32. فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ﴿٣١﴾

    For he neither trusted, nor prayed.

  33. وَلَٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ﴿٣٢﴾

    But he denied and flouted.

  34. ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ﴿٣٣﴾

    Then went he to his folk with glee.

  35. أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ﴿٣٤﴾

    Nearer unto thee and nearer,

  36. ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰٓ﴿٣٥﴾

    Again nearer unto thee and nearer (is the doom).

  37. أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ أَن يُتْرَكَ سُدًى﴿٣٦﴾

    Thinketh man that he is to be left aimless?

  38. أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةً مِّن مَّنِىٍّ يُمْنَىٰ﴿٣٧﴾

    Was he not a drop of fluid which gushed forth?

  39. ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ﴿٣٨﴾

    Then he became a clot; then (Allah) shaped and fashioned

  40. فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ﴿٣٩﴾

    And made of him a pair, the male and female.

  41. أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُحْـِۧىَ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ﴿٤٠﴾

    Is not He (Who doeth so) Able to bring the dead to life?
